My community
Growing up around a park I had lots of rules to follow. My mother set guidelines for what I couldn’t do. She said the park is “A breeding ground for bugs, disease and bad children” (Debra Case). Walking through nature gives me a sense of well being in my busy adolescent life. The smooth breeze in my face and the smell of the river meeting with freshly ripened purple violets remains in my mind every day. As a child I grew up around Black Hawk Park in Rock Island, a place I would grow to love and admire. The area is used typically as a gathering place for family reunions and parties. It also proves to be an amazing place to relax. This community attraction displays the special things we have, but seldom take advantage of. The first time I came to Black Hawk Park, I was truly ignorant of the concept of “Fun without a cost”. I lived very close to the historic attraction but rarely came near it. I found myself too caught up in material things to realize the value of the park. I was an active child and read a lot, so information was something I couldn’t get enough of.
