Puma, Voyager, or Funtime: It's (most of) All in the Name"This must be another Japanese cigarette box," I told myself, when Toyota introduced a brand-new model some time ago. Its characteristics were modest and even below that. The price was comparable to that of its reputable European cousins. Nevertheless, the auto was fascinating. It had the sweetest face you could associate with an auto, and a name even more appealing: Funtime. Famous automobile companies often choose fancy names for their products, but companies with decades of tradition don't bother to do that. A Jaguar is a Jaguar, no matter if it has "Terminator II" or "XJ 220" attached to it. Mercedes C-Class is not less respectable that Mercedes Thunderstorm, for instance. In the world competition for the market place, well-known makes are not too pretentious in name choice, while their challengers compensate for an inferior position with names that reflect the design line of their products. In other words, name explains appearance and structure. There are a few exceptions and I will comment on them, too. Would you buy an Audi A4 or a Nissan Skyline? Well, it depends on your financial capabilities, because the first is "a little" more expensive than the other - s
There are cases, though, when leaders show off. Lamborghini Diablo is a classic. Its contours are ruthlessly stretched as if they want to escape from its shape. The front is indeed diabolic, presenting the observer with a mask in which he sees eyes and a mouth, otherwise called lights and air-ventilation aperture. Their configuration is such that in the whole design implies fury and aggressiveness. Such an appearance deserves the name, because the two match perfectly. I think that in this case the use of a descriptive name is justified no matter that the car producer is well known in the most esoteric circles of automobile connoisseurs. Such is the case with the latest Ford model called Puma, too. Ford is a universal symbol of functionality and appeal and this model is no exception. The Puma's overall look is reminiscent of that of a carnivorous animal. This auto is no doubt from the cat family. Its headlights are () shaped, the body is low in the front and unusually high in the back, like a Puma in ambush, watching its prey. Compact contour, a mass of muscles, concentrated in one point. This is in short Ford Puma. Names of autos also carry allegorical connotations, such as Rolls-Royce Silver Lady. They convey a feeling of mystery with a flavor of charm or even nostalgia. The old-fashioned style of the most expensive car in the world keeps the past alive. The massive const
