Technology and Values
A detailed Summary of Technology and Values
Beepers, telephones, radios, computers, it is hard to imagine that at one time humans relied on spears and stones for survival. Technology is proof not only of mankind's gift of knowledge, but evidence of what separates man from nature. It has assimilated so well into society that it has become a staple for the new generation.
One such medium of technology that has affected modern life with great impact are computers. At least one computer occupies one home in America. Computers are used to operate lights, regulate water, electricity, used in hospitals, store information, but most of all it paves the way to the Internet, a new kind universe that exists in wires.
The Internet offers a vast array of information available to one click of the mouse. It belittles the purpose of what had once made books valuable since information may be accessed according to one's desired information and not page after page of chronologically arranged information. An individual is taken directly to what he wants to know.
To many, the Internet is an alternate universe for the physical world. Here, freedom of speech is exercised to its fullest. Ideas, thoughts and opinions are expressed so freely that there are no limitations to one's grasp. Wi

Technology has become so intertwined with our society that we now face new ideas and ideals to explore. Humanity may step further advancement but it will always call for one specific need, companionship. Humans are like wolves. Whether he chooses to be alone or join the pack, he will always need a companion. The Internet shows that technology won't be heartless as old movies predict; robots acquiring emotions and taking over the world, human clones as slaves, designer babies, etc. Technology is aiming not only for the advancement and better of modern life, but for values and morals as well.
th the Internet, it is now possible to converse with someone half a world away to someone who's lives just across the street. The Internet also serves as a haven for people who aren't very social or fear speaking in front of others. The shyest person in the world may be known as the loudest person on the Internet.
Real relationships are the same as Internet relationships although there is a risk of being hurt more than on the Internet. The Internet offers animosity where someone could assume to be someone else and go on. How an individual acts in person is more at risk since it is human nature to be concerned with appearance. Modern society today is very concerned with physical appearance as well. Exercise equipment and diet pills are famous for this very reason.
