Times have changed
For many years, the American people have been immersed in a heated debateabout racism due to the multi-cultural and ethnic differences. Many were frightened, uneducated, and ignorant to learn about others and turned to discrimination as a solution to their social and economic difficulties. In his essay The Fire Next Time, James Baldwin shared his life predicaments and some racial dilemmas that occurred in the mid-1900s. He asserted that people were mistreated because of their nationality, beliefs, and/or differences. In addition, there was much hatred, lack of understanding, and segregation among the people. However, the American people today are quite different from the Americans that Baldwin described. Through time, as well as social and economic conditions, most people learned to accommodate the different aspects of cultures and accept one another. They are aware of the existence of diversity and try to work together to make America a better country for themselves and their surroundings.
