When is Right and Wrong

A detailed Summary of When is Right and Wrong

"If loving you is wrong then I don't wanna be right," lyrics from a very popular soulful song, one used to seduce many with it's rhythmical melody. The Lyrics "If loving you is wrong then I don't wanna be right," are expressing an opinion, for who is to truly say what is wrong and what is right? The book Anthem, by Ayn Rand expresses that numerously throughout the book, a view, an opinion, a criteria of what is iniquitous and rectified. We all have different thoughts and views of what we consider to be right and wrong. We all develop some sort of system we use to judge and or base our opinions on. No matter who we are or where we come from, we all have different views and perceptions of what should and shouldn't be, and that is how we, individually, differentiate between what we "think" is right and wrong. Equality 7-2521, now known as Prometheus, comes to acknowledge what his views were and rejects the views of others.

We all have different thoughts and views on what we consider to be right and wrong. "It is a sin to think words no other think...there is no transgression blacker than to do or think alone...The law says that men may not write unless the Council of Vocations bid them so." (p.17) Is this really a reasonable

law and or thing to live by in today's society? Could people really not think alone and not do things alone as they wish? To be shun and considered sinful just because you have your own personal thoughts and views that you share with no other. Is that really humane?

Equality 7-2521, now known as Prometheus, comes to acknowledge what his views are and rejects the views of others. "Now I look ahead. My future is clear before me...I shall live here in my own house. I shall take my food from the earth by the toil of my own hands. I shall learn many secrets from many books." (p.99) Here, Prometheus uses the word "I" quite often and he explains to himself the he will be one, he will do what he wants to do and he will be what he wants to be and no other. He is clearly stating that he is in control of his life and that he has the non negotiable right to do what he pleases, when he pleases and how he pleases.

We all develop some sort of system we use to judge and or base our opinions on. If that system is correct or not is for us to decide, alone. No matter who we are or where we come from, we all have different views and perceptions of what should and shouldn't be, and that is how we, individually, differentiate between what we "think" is right and wrong. "We strive to be like our brothers of men for all men must be alike," (p.19) Th
