The Silence of the Lambs is a critically acclaimed movie based on the book Silence of the Lambs written by Thomas Harris. The Silence of the Lambs is an Orion Pictures Corporation film which was copyrighted in 1990 and was a Strong Heart/Demme production. The Silence of the Lambs was directed by Jonathan Demme. The sound was by Howard Shore. Cinematography by Tony Jannelli, and special effects by Dwight Benjamin-Creel. This film was edited by Lisa Bromwell. The Silence of the Lambs takes place in 1990 in three states, first in Virginia, then in Baltimore, and lastly in Tennessee. The main characters are Dr. Hannibal Lecter, played by Anthony Hopkins, who is a psychopath psychiatrist with great intellect who is kept behind bullet proof glass in a maximum security asylum. Hannibal was put in there after he killed and ate some of his former patients. Clarisse Starling, played by Jodie Foster, is an FBI trainee who was called on by her superior to examine Hannibal in hope to find out information on how to capture the deranged serial killer "Buffalo Bill." Jack Crawford, played by Scott Glenn, is Clarisse's superior who is in charge of the Behavioral Science Department of the FBI. He loo
There was a couple of songs throughout the movie that had some meaning. The Senators daughter, before she was kidnaped, was singing American Girl. This showed that she was of some importance, being the daughter of a Senator of the United States. Every time it went down to Buffalo Bill's cellar, it played a specific song. Every time it was played it gave off the feeling that he changed a lot. He would act calm, but sometimes he would show the masculine side of himself and start to yell. The other song was a calm song that was playing in Hannibal's new cell. It gave off a feeling of calmness. It must have been the calm before the storm because right after the song, he killed the two guards. From what I see the music in this movie was of great importance. Clarisse had to find clues throughout the movie which led her to the elusive Buffalo Bill. Even though she was very smart, she would have never found Buffalo Bill without the help of Hannibal. He was the key between the murders and the murderer. At the same time the FBI was at another house where they thought Buffalo Bill was. They broke into the house and found Buffalo Bill nowhere. Clarisse went to the house that the girl told her to go to. It was Buffalo Bill's house. He answered the door and she came in and asked him some questions. He was gonna give her a card of the son of the prior owner of the house. She saw one of those moths fly by and her instincts told her this was Buffalo Bill's house. She drew her gun and he ran into his cellar. She couldn't find him down there, but found the Senators daughter in a hole in the ground. She continued her search for Buffalo Bill, who they now knew was Jame Gumb. She walked into a room, and he turned the light out. He snuck up behind her with a gun, and fired it, but it was empty. As soon as she heard the click, she turned around, fired and killed Jame. A lot of blood and gore took place throughout the movie. Technology helped it look more real. It looked life like when they were examining the first girl murdered. She was laying on the table, and part of her back was skinned. It also looked life like when they were taking Hannibal to the hospital after he skinned the guard's face. The second symbol of the movie is the moth cocoon. No moth like it lived in the country. They had to be imported as eggs and raised to adulthood. This is the key to the killing of Buffalo Bill. If she never saw the moth fly near her when she was at his house, she would have left and the girl would have died. Buffalo Bill would have still been on the loose, and with no Hannibal to help Clarisse, he would have been unstoppable. Clarisse went with Jack on a case which involved the first person that Buffalo Bill murdered and skinned. She had to analyze the situation and said that Buffalo Bill was a white male, at least 35 years of age who, liked to kill and skin overweight girls, but they didn't know why, yet. As they examined the body, they took a picture of her mouth and found there to be a moth cocoon in her throat. She brought this piece of evidence to her friends and they told her that it was a moth from Asia. Coincidentally a cocoon of the same origin was found in the head of the so-called Miss Mofet.
