The sign language Barbie, wow what a concept. That is pretty cool, but I do have a couple of questions to that idea and the article written about it. First of all how can it do sign language with a chalkboard and stickers? Is this Barbie gonna actually move? All I know is that Barbie could never really move. And what I got from the article was that it is just an unmovable doll that you have to move and put the stickers on the chalkboard. I think that it may teach the young kids about sign language and that it will make them understand about being deaf, and they will realize that the deaf people are just people to and not to isolate them out of a group. By playing with these dolls they will get the idea that it would be a good thing to get involved in sign language and start to understand about the deaf, and get involved with doing the language with their hands. This way they can start looking at the deaf people in a different perspective and do not only a good deed but they might actually enjoy it and maybe they might even make a friend out of it. I think that instead of Barbie being a teacher that she should be a student instead and she should be deaf as well. To me that would represent the deaf population better and wo

And they should look at this in a positive perspective rather then a negative way because they are just trying to educate the younger kids that are so harsh to people with disabilities because they really don't know any better. Also a
uld spark more of an interest I think. Even though it might offend some deaf people, overall I think that it would be a better call to go with the deaf student then
they did not put out a student but on the other hand they plan to put out another different kind of disabled doll.
Dealing with this issue on a micro level, a single person that is directly or indirectly involved with a deaf person may get a little offended by this action of putting a teacher of the deaf on the shelves for little kids to buy. And for that a social worker has to look at that and think what can they do to help this child believe that it is a good thing rather then a bad misrepresentation of people making fun of them. The social worker has to explain the good qualities of the doll and tell them that if they show this to a "normal person" then they might think well this is pretty neat and they might start getting interested in dealing with deaf people, and work with them to build up their self confidence. Especially on a micro level the social worker should just work with individual children if
