Although the issue has been around for a long time, it has never been talked about to the extent it is now. It is very important that youth feel they can effectively communicate with their family member especially on matters as important as date rape. Date rape does not just affect the victim but it also has a great impact on the families of the rape victim and possibly the family of the rapist. Families are not aware of the impact they have on their children and it circumstances of date rape, the characteristics of parents can come into play. Family members can help in the prevention of date rape but in order to do so there are steps that need to be followed as well as valuable teaching tactics. There are so many changing statistics about date rape in Canadian society and research could be made to see why these statistics are changing and whether or not the changes are for the better.
