Hampton at a Glance
As I walk about the campus each day and observe the different sites and interactions of the people, it amazes me how we are so different, but yet many of us are the same. I watch as we transfer from class to class, the scenery at the cafe on the inside as well as outside, the student grill, and the Chapel on Sunday. These are very interesting places to observe because you have so many different personalities and ideas uniting as one. And all of this takes place on the campus of Hampton University. Each day, many of us scramble from class to class looking like little ants running about lost. Then there is time spent front the Science and Technology building and the lobby of MLK and Buckman in between classes. In front of the Science & Technology is majority upperclassmen having their bonding time since many of them do not live on campus anyway. They all post up on the walls whether it is cold or hot and just chill and talk. Some play around hitting and chasing each other; while others show each other love by hugging one another and expressing themselves. Then you have the lobby of MLK and Buckman where everyone chills in between classes. This is the one of the mai
------------------------------------------------------------------------ The Chapel is such a fake church or whatever it is considered to be. The choir sucks and the preacher does not preach until the end of the service for about fifteen minutes. Throughout the entire service they sing and make announcements. Towards the end of the service before the preacher gives his sermon they collect money, then he gets up and preach for his short period of time. Sitting back in the audience and observing, I look around and I wonder how do any of these students sit through this service at the Chapel consistently. I guess since majority of us are young they like the brief service because the last time I went to the chapel was packed. I guess since the majority of us don't have cars then we have to attend their service just to get a tab bit of inspiration for the day. If one could only imagine the choir singing and they don't sound like the average black choir, they sound like they are singing in front of white people. They know black people like rhyt! and you know their on the scene. On the outside of the cafeteria like the S&T building is for the upperclassmen, this is the hang-out for the underclassmen. Everyone standing in their own little groups gossiping. Then you have all the guys one the wall and the rails observing the girls and having their guy talk. Then it ups the stairs and through the doors where you enter the cafeteria. When you walk through the doors you smell an aroma which smells pleasing. Sike, wake up because it's only a dream the cafeteria foods sucks and it's far from pleasing. Also, as you walk inside you hear all of the voices speaking at once again all trying to be heard as in the MLK lobby. The time my friends and I go to the cafeteria around six it is usually packed. So when we walk through the doors all we see are the many faces of Hampton University. The center aisle of the cafeteria is known as the cat-walk because this is where the girls model off their clothing and make themselves k! . But still, you have the gathering in the MLK and Buckman lobby. Also, another thing which can be observed is that since many of us come from so many different places, our lifestyles are all different. To me, the cold weather is cold, but to a northerner it is nothing. I am all wrapped up and some of them are walking around without jackets on. This is extremely funny to me. Then another thing is listening to all of the different accents. You have then northern accents, then the southern ones, the west coast accents, and the Midwest accents. So here on campus everyone sounds different and we have tendencies to tease one another for not sounding the same. At the same time while we are mocking each other's accents we are surely adapting some of the others terms
