Fitness
Fitness is defined as the quality or state of being fit (Merriam-Webster). Exercise is defined as physical activity at higher than normal levels of exertion. (Donetelle). These two words are a sort of yin and yang of each other. To be fit, one must exercise and exercising only leads to being fit. I have found that most people are not too concerned with how they look or what shape their body is in. About twenty-two percent of all Americans engage in at least thirty minutes of moderate physical exercise while fewer than ten percent exercise enough to improve overall fitness (Donetelle). Common excuses I have heard are: "I don't have enough time" - "I don't have anywhere to exercise" - "I don't care". Well, to rebut these comments, time is easy to find, you don't need a "place" to exercise, and you should care because you will have this body for the rest of your life. I have always been in above average shape. I am also very anal and concerned with how I look. I like to look good and I like to eat right but this class was a great excuse to take it to the next step. I am an ectomorph without a doubt. My mom is always telling m
e to eat more and people think I am this skinny little guy who doesn't amount to much. Being very tired of all this, I just wanted to at least look like I had some meat on me. I set the following goals: have always been hard to develop. The weight training improved my arms substantially but did not improve my back or chest, which I worked very hard on. 1. Increase muscle mass (mainly pecs) I plan to do a lot of weight training in order to bulk up. In order for me to do this, I have to take in more food, so my nutrition will have to improve. I plan on being diligent when it comes to my routine. My routine consists of upper body weight training twice a week in troutman for two hours a day. I also will get up every morning and do as many push-ups as possible, the Adesso Abdominal Crunch Program in repetitions of 25, and 25 repetitions of a chair tricep exercise. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ The results have been quite a road to travel. I have worked hard throughout the semester and I have learned a lot. The ending results were surprising to say the least. I accomplished three out of my four goals. I did gain muscle and it is visible, as very close female friends of mine have told me so. I maintained the exact same 6.5 percent body fat that I had when I started. I followed my routine with out fail. I did not gain the ten pounds that I wanted. Instead, I gained six. I started the second semester at 130 pounds. I now weigh 136 pounds, however, I believe I would have made it to 140 pounds had I not gotten very ill. I was at 139 pounds when I got sick and then I dropped to 136 pounds. A
