I came from a neighborhood that was not so great or "rich." I do not have any trust funds and we do not live in a big house in Pepper Pike. I live in Cleveland. I have a medium sized house and I come from a middleclass neighborhood. I went to Cleveland Public Schools since kindigarten. I was lucky enough to go to a great elementary schools and receive a good education. But when I had to go to sixth grade, I was assigned to a horrible school, which I had to go to because there was no other option. It was the worst rated school in the system.
The sixth grade was a awful experience. Most of my friends who were assigned to my school had gotten a transfer to another school. My bus ride was forty-five minutes long. We did not have all the supplies we were supposed to have either. In that school it was incredibly easy. They do not challenge you at all. I got straight A's. I lived
"Do you know how many people are ahead of you?"
"It is not your fault and there is a chance I can still get in."
"I am sorry, honey. Keep reading and maybe it will explain more on what it means."
During that school year I applied to many different schools. Hawken was one of them. I also applied to another Cleveland Public School, the School of the Arts. A few of my friends went there and I heard it was a good school for being in the Cleveland Public system. The School of the Arts was more realistic and affordable but Hawken is the one I wanted to go to. I eventually got accepted into the school of the Arts.
"Open it, Honey, what does it say?" my mother said as she walked in the living room where I was in.
I read it all. "It says that I am on the 'waiting list' and that if somebody decides not to go to Hawken, I get in, but if not I will go to Hawken next year."
