Speech

In the beginning of this class, I did not think it was going to be possible for me to get up in front of the class and discuss anything aloud. I was a nervous a wreck just from the thought of it. After viewing fellow students with the same uneasy feelings as I had made me realize I had no reason to sweat. There were some students that struggled and some that looked at ease.

My first speech was somewhat flat and unorganized. For any listener, you could tell I was not a professional. I tried to sum of my life in about 12 minutes. I did not make it. From my experience of first speech, I learned to point out key point and organize them in a way to guide the audience the way I want them to go.

My second speech was a little bit better. At first, I was extremely nervous which caused me to read verbatim from my notes. I did not link with the audience. After awhile, I calmed down and backed away from my jotted down notes. Feeling a little more comfortable, I arrange my


thoughts blurted out the rest of my speech.

To be sure, the individuals in question would certainly tell their speechwriters what particular beliefs on important topics they wish to convey. However, as is the case with many politicians, the words we hear them speak are not their own.

>From the two speeches and listening requirements, I learned it takes good listening, proper preparation, and confidence for me to be an effective speaker.

If a politician doesn't write his or her own words, then there is a certain lack of personal responsibility attached. When people create something, they attach personal conviction to it.
