With the United States being called the "Melting Pot" of the world, many foreigners flock to this country with hopes and aspirations of living a better life. People from all over the world voyage to the "Land of Plenty" expecting that they will be given the opportunity of independence without sacrifice and toil. Although many of them come from countries that require hard work to partake of national luxuries, often it takes a little more effort to succeed in America. To some, just being considered free is enough, but others are looking to relish everything this country has to give. In either case, newcomers should be required to exercise their ability to speak the national language.

Since English is spoken in the majority of the United States, it would only benefit immigrants to educate themselves by becoming bilingual. Instead, foreigners struggle because their only form of communication is the language of their homeland; thus, it is difficult to read literature, find employment, and exhaust their potential in striving for "The American Dream".

Most of the text that is written in America's newspapers, books, contracts, and similar documents are written in English. A potential employ


The abundance of jobs here in this country is one of many reasons that foreigners have sought citizenship in the United States. There are a number of jobs that don't require people to have good communication skills; however, the companies that avail these positions are repeatedly forced to hire someone that may not be qualified due to discrimination laws. On one hand this may seem fair, but on the other hand, a question should be asked, "What about the person who is qualified and is able to speak the English language fluently?" Although many employers may benefit from having an employee that speaks a foreign language, it is necessary that they are also able to convey proper English skills as well. Outsiders that do not speak English have very little chance of obtaining jobs that involve public relation skills; therefor, they are compelled to take laborious work that does not require a significant amount of intellectual capacity. It is human nature to strive for something better. In making this forward progress, it is imperative for newcomers to gain knowledge and the necessary information on what needs to be done in order to achieve this. Immigrants often fail to see what has transpired over centuries
