h.g. wells father of scirence fiction
H. G. Wells was a great science fiction writer and he had many different styles and beliefs that were reflected into his writings. Wells is known for being the "Father of Science Fiction" over such great science fiction writers as Jules Verne. This is the author that made known the idea of a machine that could travel through time and Martians invading earth and the idea of invisibility. Wells may have been wealthy as an adult, but as a child he was not as fortunate (Harris -Fain 238). Herbert George Wells was born in Bromely, Kent, a suburb city near London on September 21, 1866 (238). He was the third son of Joseph Wells, who was a shopkeeper and a professional cricketer (Asimov 3). His mother was a housekeeper who sometimes had to work to support the family to be able to live while her husband was injured (3). The family had the status of being lower middle class (Harris- Fain 238). His father always did find science books that he could let young Herbert read (238). That's what Wells said made a turning point in his life. He did not get much education as a child (238). In fact he only got three years of it. The reaso
------------------------------------------------------------------------ On October 30th, 1938 War of the Worlds was read over a radio broadcast by Orson Wells in Mercury Theater (Klass). That made people panic and worried many and that they thought Martians had attacked. Many drove around hoping to find protection and looking for defense weapons and some rioted (Klass). But this was all based on the book War of the Worlds written forty years before Orson Wells broadcast (Klass). It was the first book written about alien invasion (Harper Collins). War of the Worlds was also one of his best known. n why he was not educated much was because his parents apprenticed young Herbert at a draper's shop (Harper Collins 1054). But then his life turned around for him. At the age of sixteen he attended Midhurst Grammar School (Harris-Fain 238). Then he got a scholarship to the Normal School of Science where his professor was the prominent T.H. Huxley who also had a big influence in his writings, giving him ideas to write about (Harper Collins 1054). Wells majored in biology (1054). He received his college degree in 1888 (Asimov 3). While attending school he became a writer and editor for the Science School Journal (Harris-Fain 239). He published several stories in that magazine including the story that was the foundation for The Time Machine (239). Wells also completed his Bachelor of Science degree (H.G. Wells 1866-1946). Going to these schools gave Wells more than an education and deg! Over the years since there has been writing there have been stories told about many different things. But no one had written like H.G. Wells did. He was one of the first authors to write science fiction. For sure he was the best. That's why he has the title "Father of Science Fiction"
