I think the main reason parents spend lots on their children is because they work long hours, and so do not get a chance to be with their children a lot. This makes them feel guilty, so to compensate, they buy presents for them. Other parents work harder in order to earn enough money to provide the best for their little darlings.

As the parents are earning more, they are able to spend more too. If they spent all the money on themselves, they would feel selfish, and so they spend it on their children instead.

Secondly, after a short while, your child is likely to get bored with the toy, or outgrow it, and so it will stay untouched, in the back of the cupboard for several years, until it gets thrown away.
