Illusion is often a recurring theme in literature. In ones life illusion is used to escape from the harsh circumstances of reality. Many people have expectations and dreams. We use these to encourage and help us get through the difficulties of the real world. In the play "The Glass Menagerie" the author Tennessee Williams gives each of the characters hope and illusions to aid them in dealing with the conflicts they are facing in their lives.
Amanda Wingfield, the mother of Laura and Tom has many illusions. Amanda is a women who frantically clings to another time and place. She often recalled her days in Blue Mountain when her life was perfect, and once had seventeen gentlemen callers in one day. Her husband was a telephone man who fell in love w
