Life In North Pole, Alaska
I have lived in North Pole, Alaska my entire life. It has been a fun experience, defined my personality into what it is today, and given me a place I am proud to call home. Most of all, though, growing up in North Pole, Alaska has allowed me to develop a love for living in a place with a small population, the space and appropriate weather for outdoor recreation, the natural beauty, a relaxed style of living, and people I have close relationships with. North Pole is a very small, spread out town. But at the same time, it is not too spread out and there are enough people around in order to feel safe. North Pole, having a population of approximately 32,000 people, is not overpopulated like many cities in the lower fourty-eight are. Living in a city with a small population has many benefits that I enjoy such as lots of outdoor space, a relaxed style of living, and the opportunity to have close relationships with many people. On the contrary, a largely populated city is crowded with many houses and buildings, has a fast paced style of living, and has less opportunity to build close relationships with people. Also, having a small population gives people more privacy and personal space, giving the
recreational activities I have enjoyed while growing up in North Pole. North Pole has a very relaxed style of living versus the fast paced lifestyles of big cities. This is because of the small population and all the space. There is only about 5 miles within the city limits of North Pole and the only places to really go is the grocery store or the gas station. In big cities there are so many people trying to go to so many different places all at once that traffic jams are caused. Being from North Pole, I never experience traffic jams except when I visit relatives that live in other states. Another example of how the style of living is better in small cities rather than in big cities is that there are less pressures on appearances in smaller cities. There is so much pressure to fit in with the upper class crowd in big cities. In North Pole, even if you are technically upper class, everybody fits in together. No one cares if you go out to the store in a pair of scrubby jeans and a t-shirt. I realized how true this is when I visited my mom! all the things that I love about living in North Pole, Alaska. Many people do not like living in a place like this and can't wait to leave, but I am happy to be living in a place I can feel comfortable and relaxed in. When I was younger, I always thought I wanted to move to a big city some day. It wasn't until after visiting places like California, New Jer
