Martin Luther King Jr. was a great man in our country's history. He fought to get equal rights for the black community. King used a non-violent way of fighting. He conducted many sit-ins, and had many rallies at which he spoke. King is mostly remembered for one speech he gave entitled, "I HAVE A DREAM". He delivered this speech on August 28, 1963 on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial to a crowd of about 250, 000 people, after meeting with President John F. Kennedy.
King begins this speech by saying, "Five score years ago..." which is the way that Abraham Lincoln opened his "Gettysburg Address". He does this because he his standing on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial delivering this speech. "In whose symbolic shadow we stand today" King says. He thinks back as to when Lincoln
