human conception of religion

If anything has changed more over the course of time, it is without a doubt the human conception of religion. Nothing has been the cause of more wars, death and misconceptions. It proves as the basis, as to how people mold their entire lives, how the government is controlled and the fate of nations. The very idea that there is a greater omnipotent power above us that created us and our worlds, is beyond the capacity of our mortal minds. Modern day religion must deal with many factors that influence which faith, if any, people chose, and how they practice it.

In today's world, religion has few things going for it. The major world religions, (Judaism, Catholicism, Muslimism, Buddhism, etc.) have the advantage of having superior, although at times non-existent, hierarchy organization. This gives the followers of these religions the clarity to see the structural continuity and chain of ordained that make the religion what it is today.

Unfortunately, organized world religion has many things to contradict and drive people away from it. The every Sunday' philosophy of catholics has almost disappeared, and save for some strict religious sects, most people pertaining to religions are nominal only. A great deal of m


The masses we attend are an experience that makes me feel closer to God, my fellow classmates, and myself. The beautiful church inspires me to attend mass there on the Sabbath. The retreats we go on enlighten me and rejuvenate my soul. Every event that Xavier has helps strengthen my individual perception of the communal aspect that is so important, especially in modern times, of the Catholic Church.

Going to public school in Queens all my life until Xavier did not help my religious role out very much. Catechism on Sundays was the extent of my religious education. The event in my life that changed that was choosing to go to Xavier.

The Christian Service that Xavier offers allows me the needed opportunity to give something back to the community and the church by doing the little I can to better the world. I get a greater sense of my inner self, knowing I helped someone. I chose to do an overnight homeless shelter that is at my local parish. I get there around 7:30 to help set dinner up and I clean up after they leave at about 6:30 in the morning, so it's quite a full night for me. This experience lets me fathom to know how Jesus felt for all of us
