Feminism.The history of feminism is dated back to the 1700's. Writers like Mary Wollstonecraft had then started writing how they wanted the equal treatment of women, in all aspects of life. Many male witers such as John Struart Mill (1869), motivated that society should utilise women, otherwise society was wasting 50% of the capicity that could be used to make society better. Ever since many changes have occured and feminism has found many dimensions such as radical, social and political feminism. The aim is the same. However what exactly is the ideology in itself?

Basically, feminism demands for equality between the sexes and a demand for freedom. Feminists believe that the role women have had is the product of society. The upbringing, education and genetic inheritance we have, has led to it. On the other hand however, womens' biological role, motherhood, is considered very worthy. This is where the grounds for critisism, of the male dominated society, comes in and is the grounds for change. This idea has a baring likenness to the ideas of Elisabeth Stanton's, from the end of the 1800's.

ancy to be passive, caring and more peaceful compared to men. That's why men have taken the dominant role. However on the grounds of feminism, if women did have an equal influence, society and politics would be less aggresive and power hungry. Also since women are considered more peceful and gentle, they could handle welfare, environment and economy more cooperatively and better. In the future conservative and some moderate feminists would like to see women given equal oppertunities, but not just picked because of their gender, but their qualifications.

Now you have already been introduced to the main sub-divisions of feminsm. Radical, moderate and conservative. Their views are quite different, and their theories can in itself be described as an ideology. Today, radical feminism has a minority support but in the 1970's, when it was formed, the message they sent was loud and clear. They went to extreme extents to be heard, even commiting suicide.

Utopia means the ideal society of an ideology. In the beginning of the century, the suffragettes thought that the world and men would be better off, if women were given the oppertunity to influence politics. That thought stll lives on. A feminist utopia must ofcourse be based on womens value. This is according to the Norwegian theorist Beatrice Halsaa, who also summarizes femministic utopia. It is one based on childbirth and childcare, and preperation for life and death. Basically a society oriented around the concrete life processes. Instead of opening the male door for women, which is like the equality policy stategy, it is about giving priority to women and opening their door for the men. A society based on morals and love. Radical feminists want to change the time system with a "natural" time system based on the 4 seasons and living age. Also to create two days in the week where one is "free" from TV, radio, cars etc.
