Debate Paper -- Genetic Engineering
A. Did you know that over 40% of the foods for sale in the grocery store are genetically engineered? Did you also know that the Federal Drug and Administration, also known as the "F.D.A.", the government agency responsible for your health and general safety, does not require the companies that produce genetically engineered label their products? This means that if there were to be a large breakout of disease in genetically engineered foods, the companies responsible could never be found. B. Since genetically engineered foods that are of the same type (for example, broccoli), are produced almost exactly the same way, if one genetically engineered broccoli were to get a disease, there is a much larger chance that other naturally grown broccoli plants would get the same disease, because the plants would have the same basic gene type Therefore, if someone were to sabotage genetically engineered plants,
B. When a genetic engineer cuts genes from one plant and puts them into another, he has no clue where to drop the gene. He just drops the gene into the newly genetically engineered food and hopes that it works itself out. B. If a local run group were to raise money for genetic engineering costs, it would be ridiculously expensive, due to export costs, genetic engineering costs, and costs for the those running the group. In the end, it would be less expensive and result in more food being sent if we just sent what is readily available. there's a good chance that it would catch onto the other plants very quickly.
