corporal punishment

A detailed Summary of corporal punishment

People all over the world were asking each other the same question. In every country, territory, state, and province, people are asking, "What's wrong with the world today?" Now I certainly don't pretend to know all of the answers, but I believe that if we reinstated corporal punishment in schools and homes, children all over the world would benefit.

The first piece of evidence that I'm going to use to support my belief deals with two studies conducted by the Journal of Marriage and the Family. "In the first study, mothers of 36 month old children responded to vignettes about child misbehaviors. Mothers who reportedly used corporal punishment at least once a week believed it was more likely to result in positive outcomes, including immediate child compliance." (Holden, Miller, and Harris 1 ) The second study included fathers, and the results remained the same.

The second piece of evidence that I found quite confirming, is simple two letters, one written by a mother who spanked her child and the other written by the child who was spanked. The child who was spanked, Anthony, wrote that while getting spanked with mom's hairbrush wasn't fun, he deserved it. He continued to say that he had been g

Opponents of corporal punishment say that spanking teaches kids that violence works. ( Byfield 1 ) Well, let's look at some facts. In the 50's, 60's, 70's and even the 80's (when kids were still getting paddled for throwing spit wads in class) did anyone ever hear about groups of kids walking into schools with automatic weapons strapped to their sides, unloading them on other students, and then killing themselves? The answer is "No," because it didn't happen.

about how my actions would affect people other than myself.

We are letting kids think that they can get away with murder, and some are trying.

I agree with what she writes because I think kids sometimes don't realize that there are results for their actions. It goes back to the old cause and effect theory. When you do good things (work hard, obey teachers and parents, do the best you can) usually good things will result. However, when you do bad things, (slack off, disobey teachers and parents, break the law) bad things will result.

In Europe today, anti-spanking laws are so strict that if a child is spanked he or she can actually press charges against the parents, and take them to court. ( Ford 2 ) If the government thinks that kids aren't mature enough to vote, drive, drink, or work, what makes it think that kids are mature enough to make decisions with no threat of punishment if they do something wrong?

etting quite bold while talking to his mother lately. ("mouthing off", talking back, etc.) After mom let him have it with the hairbrush, he has been more polite and courteous. He also writes that now, even when his mother is not around, he thinks about what his punishment might be before he does something wrong and doesn't do it. (Are you more strict with your children than your parents wer
