Things Fall Apart

A detailed Summary of Things Fall Apart

In the novel Things Fall Apart there were a lot of different opinions. Everyone has

there own opinion on certain things, whether itbe religion, beliefs, morals or how to prepare

a meal. In a passage said by Obierka in Chapter twenty, he said "The white man is very

clever. He came quietly and peaceably with his religion. We were amused at his

foolishness and allowed him to stay. Now he has won our brothers, and our clan can no

longer act like one. He has put a knife on things that held us together and we have fallen

apart." He believed that the whole tribe had been torn away. Others may have believed that

everything was the same and nothing had changed.

One may believe that this passage referred to the story of Okonkwo and his village a

great deal. A white man did come into the village and was very clever in everything he did.

He manipulated the village and had them believing what he believed. That was his purpose

of coming there. He had a job to accomplish and he did a spectacular job at it. Although he

did it secretly, quietly and peaceably, he managed to get it done. He announced his religion

to those who he knew he could get to. The villagers didn't think he was a

religion is that it could destroy the social hierarchy of the clan.

respect among the clan. By the end of the novel, many of Okonkwo's fears have been
