Alexander the Great
A detailed Summary of Alexander the Great
Alexander the Great was one of the most powerful rulers the world has ever seen. He was also a military genius and, in many ways, a tyrant. This is because of all of the cities and complete empires he destroyed. This military genius never lost a war. He just would not stop. He wanted to conquer until there was nothing left to conquer. In the end, he captured an empire that spanned from Egypt to Eastern Asia, and touched three continents. He achieved all of this success through countless wars from the age of eighteen.
Alexander fought his first battle as a military commander for the Macedonian army, and won this battle easily (Wepman 23). Through this win he established the first of many cities to have carried his name. The city was named Alexandropolis. This already showed his genius military tactics at work, but did not gain much recognition because he had only fought half-savage rebels, and Alexander had a very strong army.
Now as the general of his father's, King Philip III, army, he next fought the Greeks at Chaeronea. The Macedonians won the battle. Alexander now had won two battles at the age of eighteen. Alexander's father, the king of Macedonia, was now in control of the Greek Empire be

These victories built Alexander's confidence greatly (Wepman 45). The vision of ruling the world now was also becoming much clearer. He still also knew, though, that that was a long way to go.
Alexander did not set out for any more expeditions. Not only did his troops refuse to, but he was not physically capable. He was in constant pain from years of constant battle that formed his huge empire. Then on June 13, 323 BC, Alexander the Great died.
Alexander's first battle as King was easily won. He marched his army to Thesaly, and they surrendered without a fight. He then went on to capture the pass to the Danube River. This was another easy victory. They fought tribesman. The main reason of this battle was mostly to scare the other tribes around the river by showing their power, and then conquer the rest of the Danube from other tribes.
There was still a problem with Persia though. For Alexander to be the rightful ruler, it had to be given to him, or he would have to kill the heir to the throne. With Darius III still alive, he couldn't be the rightful owner.
Finally, Alexander's soldiers had had enough (Wepman 101). They had traveled nearly eleven thousand miles in about eight years. They got together and refused to move any further. A quite depressed and furious Alexander, for the first time had to turn back.
