The Island of Dr. Moreau

Moral questions are very common in the practice of medicine because of the process in which products and techniques are tested. There is valuable information that could be obtained but there are also negative affects that come from the experimenting. Doctors and judges in the court of law are faced with this problem and are forced to make decisions. In The Island of Dr. Moreau by H.G. Wells, Dr. Moreau is performing experiments in which he didn't look at the harmful effects of them but only cared about what he could get out of them for himself. Through his creative mind, he made new discoveries but also showed how evil and self-centered a person could be in a situation in which he could gain something for himself.

Dr. Moreau had a very creative and ingenious mind that was able to explore areas of science many other doctors wouldn't. His experiments showed his intense desire to succeed in new areas of science. The creation of these creatures led to Moreau brainwashing them into thinking that he was their G-d and leader. These animals lived together in the wild but were taught a certain code of law. It was known as "The Law", and it stated all the acts that Moreau didn't want them to do. He taught this to them after they were created and they followed it. If they didn't, he would take them back to his lab and torture them. Moreau brainwashed them to think he was a great being, because that is what he considered himself. He thought that he was smarter and better then most people in the world and by making himself the G-d in "The Law", he could feel his power.

Dr. Moreau is a scientific genius who shows no remorse for his negative actions and feels that he is too important to have any kind of feeling. His experiments are very controversial, and the beasts they produce also cause problems for the people on the island. Scientific experiments have many different issues to consider before being performed especially how to handle t
