Richard Henry Wilde was born September 24,1789 in Dublin,Ireland.Wilde the sixth of twelve children to Richard and Mary Newett Wilde. Though he did not live there long,he still loved Ireland. In december 1796 the whole family departed for Baltimore,Maryland.Upon arrival,though always sickly,Richard became worse.Poor Richard was so weak,he was not expected to live.

Wilde lacked alot of formal education which caused wilde to spend all his life as a student.Most of Wilde's knowledge was self taught.He taught himself french,italian,spanish,bookeeping,law,and a small portion of latin.

1802,a year that changed Wilde's life.At a tender age of thirteen his father died.It was also the year he moved to georgia to work to help support his family.Wilde found employment at a store owned by an old family friend,John Cormick.In 1805 just two years after the res

This poem,a memento of Wilde's brother James,was a portion of a longer epic about his brother's expedition, as a officer in the army,to flordia.When he returned, he gave fanciful accounts of beauties and wonders of flordia.Before Wilde had written more than a few stanzas all his pleasure in the poem were destroyed when his brother was killed in a duel.His violent melancholy death put an end to the poem,except for a last stanza which aaludes to james;s fate.Wilde's works were typicalof the romantic age,which was drifting through america.These poems have a broading guality not because Wilde was a sad,unhappy person,but because he was simply copying the literary fashion of the day.
