Sportsmanship, what do you think it is? Sportsmanship today isn't what it has been in the past. As you see sportsmanship today you see that it has changed from the past. Sportsmanship is defined as skill or fondness for sports. The Webster's dictionary uses the term " Qualities and behavior conduct and attitude viewed as fair play, benefiting a sportsman."

When you were a kid after every game you played you either shake your opponent's hands or give them a cheer after they win. I am not saying that the professional athletes that play men's sports that they should run into the locker room after the game. They should shake the opponent's hand or they should congratulate them on a great game it was, that is showing good sportsmanship.

In the past their were great superstars such as Larry Bird and Magic Johnson. Even though they played on different teams. They were the best of friends on and off the court because they respected each other for what they did. At one point they were both ranked one and two when they played their game. Athletes today should look at why those two players showed good sportsmanship. They should use those two people as a role mode

In the game of tennis people respected a man name Arthur Ashe. He was the first black professional tennis player. He was a well-rounded tennis player, which started from the bottom and made his way up to the top of the rankings. After retierering from the game of tennis, Arthur started a foundation that was called the Arthur Ashe foundation. The foundation was for kids who lived in a poor area could play tennis. At one of the major tennis tournaments, the U.s. Open has a stadium named after him called Arthur Ashe stadium. Arthur died of aids at the age of 43 becoming one of the most well rounded athletes in the world.

Women athletes show different types of sportsmanship, than men do. Women show a lot of heart at what they do because they are at the bottom of the list as not being that important. You don't see them on television, if you do see women on TV, it's only for the big games they play. You see a lot of sportsmanship between women athletes. You see women picking up their other opponents after a foul or a penalty has been giving. After every game you see women get into a line and shake the opponents hand after the game is over.

Kids look up to football stars such as Terrell Owens a wide receiver of the SanF
