All sexual activities need only the consent of the participating individuals to decide whether or not those activities are considered moral and good. So, as long as people consent, a wide variety of practices can be allowed in this society, such as group sex, anonymous sex, prostitution and pornography. (Rudy 1999). In this paper I will look at two of the sex industries most profitable sources of income, prostitution and sex industry on the Internet. I will look at the negative and positive effects of criminalization of prostitution and the growth and new problems that have arose with pornography on the Internet. Many women earn all or part of their living as sex workers or in other areas of the sex industry, including pornography, nude dancing, telephone sex, and computer pornography. Sex workers are women at work, supporting children as single parents, trying to save money, trying to survive in an economical job market that underpays women at every economic level. (Shaver, 1996). Although most people stereotype prostitutes as fallen women, drug addicts, or disease carriers, in reality they are not. The Internet industry needs the sex industry just as much as the sex industry needs the Internet industry, if not more. Computer industry advisors have given the advice to new entrepreneurs to use the sex industry sites as their guide. It is said that Web pornographers are the most creative entrepreneurs on the Internet. (Hughes, 1999). The necessary elements for the sex industry to sell over the Internet are privacy, security and past payments which the sex industry established first. One of the most successful things about the sex industry on the Internet is the privacy it gives men that want to be secretive about their exploitation of women. (Hughes, 1998). By the spring of 1995, video conferencing, a way to see live person to person communication was introduced to the strip industry to the Internet. (Economist, 1998). A person could go onto a web page type in their credit card and see live strippers or sex shows for a fee. By this time most phone sex operators moved their business from the phone to live Internet. The Internet Entertainment Group has stated that the buyers for live strip show are 90 percent male, and 70 percent from the United States and 70 percent are between the ages of 18 and 40.
