Marijuana should be legalized in the United States for medical uses because it has been found to be useful in the treatment of many illnesses, as well as having many medical benefits. Marijuana is from the flower of the ganja plant; it is a mild, non-addictive drug with hallucinogenic properties. (1) Many individual states * have their own provisions for medical use of marijuana and it is also recommended by many more doctors who risk the chance of prosecution.
Marijuana is currently legal in Amsterdam, Britain, Canada and parts of the United States including California. "The LaGuardia Report (1939-1944), commissioned by New York City Mayor Fiorello LaGuardia, which included evidence gathered over thousands of years, concluded that, "Smoking marihuana does not lead to addiction... does not lead to morphine, heroin, or cocaine addiction' and that 'the publicity concerning the catastrophic effects of marihuana smoking in New York City is unfounded."
