Many vacation goers have had the National Lampoon's version of a vacation, we all have taken at least one in our life times, whether it is with our parents, alone or with our peers. What makes us, a normally sane person, act the way we do when we are no longer on our home turf. Spring Break in college or Christmas with the family it never fails we become insane when we leave our homes.
The night before we leave on a trip, we are checking to make sure we have all of the essentials, clothes, money, duct tape for the kids. Day one starts out early; we stop for gas, bathroom and then hit the freeway. Twenty minutes later, we hear the children's' battle cry, "Are we there yet?" and this is just the beginning of what will turn out to be many small tortures we endure on our journey to family togetherness. We spend all day walking up and down the little hills, stand in line to see the Little Mermaid and have to fight with other happy parents to keep their kids from knocking over the wheelchair my child is in to get ahead of us in the line to the bathroom. This is the way to spend your vacation, after day one of the tortures of Disneyland we go back to the hotel.
There are many different kinds of vacations that people take and most people usually are more tired, embarrassed or broke when they get home. What makes us normal people go through this process year after year? Why don't we just stay home and relax for the week that we are off? Spend time with the kids going over things that matter, talk about our lives and goals, that way at the end of our vacation, we don't feel like we need another vacation to recover from our vacation.
