Eloquence of Rage
I hardly believe that in the current race for the presidency very many people would ever think of voting socialist. It would hardly have occurred to me either however the Los Angeles based band Rage Against the Machine (RATM) was there to open my eyes on several different views upon this grave subject we call politics. However much I hate politics and the study thereof, I do like this band and what they have to say. So much about them is on their website http://www.ratm.com/, it was crucial to me finding out that I was completely blind to so much, and that so many injustices were happening in our world I was almost in disbelief. On the website the band speaks of the such things they sing about. The first and foremost being their blatantly leftist views on politics. Especially those opposing past foreign wars, the Gulf War being the most recent and controversial. RATM also has ties with such groups as Refuse and Resist, a group that is against what has supposedly been fed down our throats as "typical" Christian (misogynist, pro death-penalty, anti-abortion, homophobe) values. There is a speech on the site under "benefits" that Zach de La Rocha said at a concert attempting to raise money for Mumia's freedom fight. Also dedicated to Mumia is another explanation of his plight, and a link to a website for him: The Friends and Family of Mumia Abu-jamal. Another major part of RATM is how they encourage youth to speak out and think for themselves (not necessarily in that order), the band every month picks one person who is recognized on the website for their actions as "Freedom Fighter of the Month". ! They pick their honorees by seeing who does such things as "feed the homeless, organize protests, boycotts or charity events, attend rallies, post flyers around your school, community or workplace, support labor rights and unions, write speeches, cr
