Shingles is a very painful disease. It is an episode of Chickenpox that later reemerges as Shingles. The Chickenpox virus, also know as Varicella Zoster. Varicella Zoster causes Chickenpox becomes dormant in the nerve cell. The virus remains in an inactive phase in the Nerve Cell of the Dorsal Root Ganglia that's on the outside of the spinal cord. It may react by a skin eruption. As you get older your Immune System gets weaker and the Chickenpox virus may escape from the Nerve Cell and cause the Shingles. This virus is also known as Herpes Zoster (Doermann 152) (Brunell 152).
