Biography of Erik

Given the look of a death's head, Erik went through life tortured and abused by his own parents and fellow man. Born around the 1830s near Rouen, France, he was a genius in favor of the creative arts (music, architecture, and design). His mother was a housekeeper, and his father a master mason who never saw young Erik, though reasons why remain uncertain.

Tired of the abuse, Erik ran away to a circus, where he was put on display as a freak. However, while he had been traveling with the Gypsies, he learned the tricks of the magicians, contortionists, and ventriloquists. When he left (basically the same reason why he left his home), he built great palaces for the Shah of Persia. When the Shah learned of his plans to move on, and possibly build for other high rulers, he ordered Erik's execution. But in his efforts to escape from the Shah's impossible grip, Erik found himself in the hands of the Shah's personal servant: The Daroga of Mazenderan. After acquiring two gullible managers, he starts demanding for a sum of 20,000 francs per month as his salary and a box of his own (Box Five). Within time, he soon discovers Christine Daae, a beautiful yet self-deluded chorus girl, whom he will serve his time nurturing the wilting flower. Young Daae is convinced the "Angel of Music" has come for her as a gift and promise from her late father. All goes well for Erik: he trains Christine and eventually it will lead to her triumph on the stage. However, triumph as it may be for both, her stage appearance as Margarita in Faust unfortunately leads to an untimely omen for Erik - Raoul de Chagny has discovered his long lost childhood 'sweetheart' and will stop at nothing to win her heart. Erik eventually begins to notice this and grows terribly jealous to the point where he takes the newborn star to his !
