A detailed Summary of Biography of Erik

Given the look of a death's head, Erik went through life tortured and abused by his own parents and fellow man. Born around the 1830s near Rouen, France, he was a genius in favor of the creative arts (music, architecture, and design). His mother was a housekeeper, and his father a master mason who never saw young Erik, though reasons why remain uncertain.

Tired of the abuse, Erik ran away to a circus, where he was put on display as a freak. However, while he had been traveling with the Gypsies, he learned the tricks of the magicians, contortionists, and ventriloquists. Young Daae is convinced the "Angel of Music" has come for her as a gift and promise from her late father. All goes well for Erik: he trains Christine and eventually it will lead to her triumph on the stage. However, triumph as it may be for both, her stage appearance as Margarita in Faust unfortunately leads to an untimely omen for Erik - Raoul de Chagny has discovered his long lost childhood 'sweetheart' and will stop at nothing to win her heart.
