Students' Grades

A detailed Summary of Students' Grades

When a student's grades fall, parental disappointment and disapproval soon follow. His or her car could be taken away, late night privileges may be lost, curfew can be revoked, and television time may be taken away. Even the student's own self-esteem may suffer. A student certainly does not want this to happen and neither do the parents, but why does it happen? Why does it suddenly happen to an honor student, or to a student who is not expecting it? Why do grades sometimes drop? There are many answers to these questions which one may consider.

The most infamous reason for low grades is that the student does not try hard enough because his or her priorities are out of order. The student may not understand that the courses he or she is taking are now a major priority in their life. He or she possibly could be focusing on sports or some other extra-curricular activity and may not fully realize that studying must always come first. Studying and homework should always come before sports and spending time with friends, etc. The grades a student gets in school now will have an affect on his or her future. When colleges are reviewing entrance applications, they first look at the applicant's transcript from high school. Then

re are many students who have the potential to earn the honor of valedictorian of their class, but they put other things ahead of their education.

Low grades can affect what college you will get into. A high school student should realize that the grades he or she gets from the start of his or her freshman year will have an affect on their college applications. Low grades also affect one's attitude and feelings about themselves. A student may feel sad and depressed if he or she does not get accepted into the college of their choice because of their low grades. Additionally, lower grades cause problems between the parents and child. Parents know when their child is not working up to full potential. The parents may soon become disappointed and upset with their child when that child is not performing up to par. Grades are of utmost importance if one wants to become successful in college and in future life. For example, a student who earns straight "A"s in every class for his or her whole high school year will have a greater chance of getting into these private institutions than a student who gets "B"s and "C"s.
