There are many people in our society today experiencing some form of inequality. Some of these people are being used as scapegoats and have done nothing to try to achieve equality for themselves. During this semester we have read many novels showing forms of inequality and prejudice, but the two that stand out the most are Pigs in Heaven and The Crucible. Both of these novels have a certain group in thier society that has been treated unfairly and they both strive to achieve equality for themselves.
The Indians from Pigs in Heaven have been experincing inequality for a long time. It started in the 1800's when they were moved from their homeland to the reservations in Oklahoma. The trail to Oklahoma is called the Trail of Tears because so many of the Indians died.

In the novel the Indians solved one of their problems which was the snatching of their children. They made a law called the Indian Child Welfare Act. This law ensured the child to be involved with the nation and it also stated that no child can be adopted legally without the permission of the tribe. This law kept the tribe together and their children safe.

The children had no knowledge of what was going on in their tribe or even if their family was doing well. Some of the children taken were adopted for no reason at all. These children were raised by white englishmen and never learned the ways of their tribe.
