The Pledge of Allegiance is taught to us right with the ABC's. But have you ever thought about the content. Some people don't agree with all of it. They feel that part of it doesn't go along with their beliefs. This doesn't make them un-patriotic. They very much believe in their country. They just don't believe in God (in the biblical sense). And I believe they have the right to choose not to say it.There are three main reasons that support the fact that people shouldn't have to say the Pledge of Allegiance. The first reason is that it supports the Christian religion. The first amendment of constitution states... Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances. (US Constitution n.p.) This has been interpreted to pieces over the years, but to me it means that no one can
make you follow any certain religion. And it clearly states in the Pledge of Alligience "...one nation under God..." Are we one nation under God? No, we're not. The United States is a melting pot of races, cultures, and religions. Stating we are one nation under God is just wrong. Not everyone belives in the Christian God. Anyone that doesn't believe in the Christian God should have to say that they are "under" it. An argument against the people's right to choose not to say the Pledge of Allegience is, that some small minded people somtimes call someone that chooses not to say it un-patriotic, or just atheists. People might belive this because it does look bad when your one of the few people that doesn't stand for the Pledge of Allegience. That leads people to speculate, and they don't stop to think that you may have valid reasons to be doing what you are doing. This is a narrow minded way of looking at life.
