Rene Descartes is considered to be one of the most influential figures in the philosophical analysis of the world around us. Reading through the pages of Meditations of First Philosophy one thing becomes clear; Descartes use of language leads him to misinterpret his ideas in a number of places. Throughout the meditations Descartes leads himself into many false ideas through the misuse and misunderstanding of language as he attempts to represent his thoughts and ideas with language that confuses him.
The idea that he may be wrong about everything if his founding opinions are wrong leads Descartes to "set aside all the opinions which I had previously accepted". Evidence of this occurs from the very beginning. He states that "I have learned by experience that these senses sometimes mislead me, and it is prudent never to trust wholly t
In his question of consciousness he further misuses language, leading him to falsely analyze his ideas. He states "It seems apparent to me now, that I am not looking at this paper with my eyes closed, that this head that I shake is not drugged with sleep, that it is with design and deliberate intent that I stretch out this hand and perceive it. It would seems that the "illusions" that take place in his mind during sleep are creations of his mind using previous images. Without a flow of interpretable data, the mind creates it's own imagery. We as human never stop thinking. Our imaginations, however, seem to be th!
