Just Lather That's All

i. Where does the story take place?

In a small town barber shop, somewhere in Mexico.

ii. When does the story take place?

At about two-twenty in the hot as hell afternoon.

He maybe the Author, or he calls himself a secretly rebel, but also a conscientious barber.

iii. What was the occupation (job) of the Protagonist? How did he feel about his job?

He calls himself a secretly rebel, but also a conscientious barber, and proud of the preciseness of his profession.

iv. Why does the Author use the first person point of view in the story?

A method of revealing characters personalities by directly telling readers, I'm assuming that the narrator is telling his own story.

v. What do you find out about the Antagonist? What kind of person is he?

Captain Torres was on a rebel-hunting excursion, but a kind person with job on his hand. Wasn't afraid of death. He was playing his cool. Clint Eastwood style.


A Short Story about a conflict between a Captain and a barber.

ii. The conflict in the story never comes to the surface, even in the conversation between the two characters. What is the conflict? What creates the tension?

The barber's pride gets in the way; knowing he never cut his first-class client. Torres did not know that the barber was his enemy. Person versus himself, the barber feels guilty wanting to kill, but knowing he's a revolutionary and not a murderer.

i. How does the title relate to the story?

Do a thought web of the Antagonist, and then write a paragraph. Discussing personality traits.

Knowing that the barber can easily him, but he likes to kill rebels at the school patio, and holding targets practice on certain body parts. Torres knows that he is a cold blooded killer but doesn't think that the barber is.

I'm not sure, but what got my attention is when the barber recognized the rebel killer, Captain Torres. Saying "When I recognized him I started to tremble".

ii. How do you explain Torres' remark that "killing isn't easy"?
