Euthanasia and AIDS
Why should anyone be able to tell you that you have to suffer longer than you would like? This is a question that pops up very often in the minds of people that are terminally ill. AIDS is the number one killer in our society at the present time. What is the point in making these patients suffer when the only cure for them is dying? Euthanasia or Assisted Suicide, is when a doctors patient is so terminally ill that the patient signs an agreement that states that the doctor is capable of giving them an lethal injection to end their suffering. Surely, the family of the sick will be greatly sorrowed but it is not them who are sick and suffering, it is their loved one. Half of the family members really do want the sick family member to die, knowing that it is the only way to alleviate pain. There is a man named Derek Humphry that held meetings for the terminally ill and looking for a way to cope with their illness. Derek Humphry said, "that it started out that only elderly women attended his meetings. Then when the epidemic of AIDS came about, it brought a younger generation of terminally ill patients looking for a way out." It seems to me that the only people that are against euthanasia are ones that have never experienced this horr
Euthanasia is a major part of people's lives that are infected with AIDS. Oregon is the only state we have that euthanasia is legal in. Isn't this telling our society something? If one state can have it legalized, all of the other states should too. Do these people in Oregon have a different outlook on things or are we just to blind to see that innocent people are suffering? In my own opinion these people with AIDS are suffering, and being that we have no cure for this disease, the only way these patients are going to alleviate the pain is to die. ible disease. Who are these people to say that one person is not in enough pain to be able to say that it is their time to die? For the mercy of AIDS patients in their final stages of their disease Euthanasia should be accepted in today's society. Another one is Kaposis Sarcoma (KS), which is one of the most common AIDS-defining illnesses. KS is a cancer that can produce tumors any where in the body, commonly in the skin, and may be disfiguring and cause bleeding. KS is treated with chemotherapy, and radiation. Having AIDS and all these different infections are horrible as they are, and now they would have to be treated with radiation to clear up the virus. This treatment makes them feel worse than the actual infection does. One more horrible infection that they can get is Cytomegal
