Employees will stop following office rules because they do not fear the possibility of being reprimanded for their actions. This breakdown is what has happened at the Student Government Computer Services computer lab.
The loss of respect by employees causes them to slack on many of their duties that are essential for the lab to run smoothly. Some of these duties may seem trivial to employees, but in reality can be very important. Here is a list of some of the more important duties that are in some way being neglected by current employees:

· Keeping food and drinks out of the lab

Very similar in importance is the lab assistant's duty to log students in and out as they use the lab. This is done for two reasons. First, the lab is run for use by University of South Florida students only. This is because it is funded by student government. The lab assistant is to swipe a student's current USF ID to ensure that he or she is an active USF student. The second reason that lab assistant is required to swipe students in and out is that it keeps an accurate record of student usage of the lab. Like the print logs, these statistics are also used to appropriate funds to the lab by student government. The fact that current employees have been neglecting this duty could seriously hurt the lab's funding in the future.
