The fact that some women are assigned the major responsibility throughout the world for nurturing children is due to gender, a cultural construct." Sheftall says that these types of assumptions lead to sexual division between men and women. Society has categorized men and women into different roles or tasks. Men are supposed to be strong and the women are supposed to be weak. The women stay home and take care of the house and the children. Men are supposed to always make more money than women in the business field. Sheftall describes her concept of gender asymmetry as the assignment of different tasks and roles to men and ! women. This system perpetuates the notion that men are physically and intellectually superior to women." Our society teaches us what is right for men and women, which is a problem. Our society should not tell us how to act due to our sexuality. Men and women need to be equal in every aspect of life. Women should have equal pay, men should be able to stay home if they please and women can be just as strong as men. Sheftall, Beverly-Guy.
