Loss of a Friend

A detailed Summary of Loss of a Friend

It was the first day of my high school experience, and I had been in Switzerland with my grandparents for two weeks. Everyone had been to orientation, but I had missed it. I had no idea where any of my classes were. The day went on, but I didn't feel very comfortable. I went to my fourth period class, and there he was with his wonderful smile. This smile could turn any bad day around. As soon as I walked in the door he embraced me and said, " I have missed you so much." "Not as much as I missed you," I replied. I then found my seat and sat down to listen to the teacher. As she was explaining the rules of the class, I started thinking about how Michael and I met.

Michael and I met the year before, during our eighth grade year. I had classes no one else was in. All my friends were together, but I was making the best of what situation I was in. My friends and I could only talk at lunch or when we saw each other in the halls. As the year went on, they would tell me of a new kid. "Have you seen the new guy?" was all I heard at lunch. Of course my first question was, " Is he cute?" "Yes and funny too," they told me. The anticipation of the new kid is always the best feeling. As the year went on I finally met Mi

ed about over the phone. There was never a night that Michael and I did not talk.

he first person she looked at was I. " Michael has been in a wreck and is at the hospital," she said. The first thing I did was break down and cry. We went straight to the hospital, but they made us leave. The whole night I could not sleep. I stayed awake until I heard the phone the next morning. Someone answered it and started crying. I knew right then that he was gone.

own him all my life. We always just ended up talking outside together, or even sitting together in the movies. He was like the big brother I never had.

The next week was really hard for me. I could not eat or sleep. They had his funeral and memorial that week, and I was not handling his death well. It was a tragic experience in my life, but I learned a lot from it. Having to handle the fact that someone so close to you died is a growing experience. Not only do you know to live as if it's your last day, but also you realize that death is a part of life. Everyone will die sooner or later, so have no regrets.

The next day was homecoming, and it was going great. We were out of school by eleven-thirty, and everyone was so happy. Later on that afternoon, Michael called me to tell me he loved me, and I told him he'd better give me the best hug he had ever given anyone. My friends and I ate, and then went to the game. Michael was standing on the field with all the other escorts and had a look of confusion on his face. He looked so wonderful that night. I ran up to him, and he picked me up to give me the best hug I've ever had to this day. I felt as if that was the last hug I'd ever have from him, but I just ignored the feeling." I love you," he whispered in my ear. " I love you more
