In 1861, Mary Ann Evans first published the novel "Silas Marner" under the name George Eliot. This novel is mainly about Silas Marner and a few of the events that happened in his life, after he moved to Raveloe. Silas had his money stolen twice. Once before he left his home in Lantern Yard and the other 15 years later in Raveloe. He also found a baby girl at the front door one day and he raised her to be his own. Nearer to the end of the novel the baby girls father finally told them that he was her father and wanted to adopt her. But to Silas, it was his daughter.

Throughout the story Silas faces many problems. One is when he is in Lantern Yard. Here his is accused by his supposedly best friend as well as other s that he stole money from the elderly person whom he is watching. While searching his house they come across Silas's bag of money. Later his money is stolen in Raveloe. Not to much longer after that He finds a baby on the entrance to his house. And becuase she is found on his door step he dicides to keep her as his own. Once Eppie is 16 her real father dicided to come to take her to his house to live and make up for all of the years he had missed. All of the years that she has wondered who her father was.
