How to make bbq ribs

One of my favorite things to eat for dinner (or lunch) is barbequed ribs. I never mastered cooking ribs the way they taste a restaurants until this year. When I cooked ribs they would not be very tasty and the meat would be very tough. I tried boiling the ribs before baking them in the oven. I tried just baking the ribs in the oven. I even tried grilling ribs on a grill, but that did not work either. This summer a friend told me about steaming ribs to make them tender and more flavorful.

When I boil ribs they turn out very tough and there seems to be no taste to the ribs. When I tried baking the ribs the meat did not cook evenly. The outside would burn, but the inside was not tender. When I would grill the ribs, the just turned out awful. So I tried steaming the ribs and they ribs turned out great.

To steam ribs you start by buying one or more whole racks of ribs from a grocery store or meat market. I prefer to get my ribs at a meat market because the have more meat on them and they seem to be of a better quality. Once you get your ribs home take them out of the packaging and lightly coat the ribs with vegetable oil, using your hand or a brush. Sprink

After the second ten minutes of baking, take the pan out of the oven and brush the top of the ribs only with the sauce. Turn your oven to broil and place the pan with the ribs under the broiler for five minutes. It is best if you keep the pan so that the ribs are about three inches away from the broiler flame. The ribs should never touch the flame of the broiler. This will burn the sauce and make it crystallize.

After the ribs have steamed for four hours open the oven door and pull the pan out of the oven. Take off the aluminum foil. Brush the ribs with your favorite barbeque sauce. You may make your own sauce or use a store bought one. I use Open Pit original for my ribs. Make sure all sides of the ribs are covered with the sauce. Use a brush to lightly coat the ribs with the sauce. Place the pan back in the oven on the middle rack. You do not need to cover the pan with aluminum foil. Turn the temperature of the oven up to 350 degrees and shut the oven door. Let the ribs bake with the sauce for ten minutes. After ten minutes, open the oven door and pull out the pan. Brush the ribs with another coat of sauce for a second time. This time, use slightly more sauce than you did the first time. Put the pan back in the oven and bake for another ten minutes at 350 degrees.<
