Canada is a nation of obvious cultural diversity. Over the past two centuries, heavy immigration has made it one of the most multicultural of all industrial nations. These immigrates are among people from Asia, Middle East, and partly from United Kingdom. Given this diversity, many people call Canada a cultural mosaic. Multiculturalism is defined as a social policy designed to encourage ethnic or cultural heterogeneity. This essay will discuss the advantages of multiculturalism and the challenges that Canada faces due to the built up of many different nationalities and ethnic groups. Language is one of the most debatable issues that cause controversy in Canada over multiculturalism. Canada is officially bilingual; however, the country consists of people with many different mother tongues. The minority part of our culture are force to either speak English or French and gradually, they will lose the use of their mother tongues and with that, their unique culture characteristic will also be lost.
