Beowulf
Beowulf is an epic poem written in Anglo-Saxon times, by an unknown poet. Beowulf is a Geatish man who rescues the Danish people from evil, and helps save his own country from destruction. Beowulf, renowned for his bravery, and known as the strongest man alive, acquires the help of fourteen thanes to sail with him to Denmark. There he is involved in two battles with two evil monsters. He then fights another battle in his homeland with a firedragon. Without violence in Beowulf, heroism would be impossible as evidenced by Beowulf's battles with Grendel, his mother, and the Firedragon. Beowulf first shows his heroic nature in the fight with Grendel. After all the men in the great hall of Heorot fall asleep, Beowulf waits for his enemy, Grendel, to come for his feast of Danish warriors. After Grendel devours one of the warriors, he makes a wrong move and grabs for Beowulf. As soon as Beowulf grips Grendel's hand, Grendel knows he has not met anyone with the strength of Beowulf. Beowulf shows how he is a hero by deciding not to use weapons against the monster. Beowulf's men try to use their swords against him, but they are useless because Grendel has woven a secret spell against every kind of battle blade. Beowulf does

In today's society it is frowned upon to use violence to show heroism. I think that sometimes violence is necessary to prove that you are a hero. If something is terrorizing you through violence I think you should fight back with violence. Beowulf is considered a hero in Anglo-Saxon times, and I would consider him a hero today if he had accomplished the same feats as he did in this epic poem Beowulf. not let go of his death grip until victory is his. After Beowulf rips Grendel's arm from its socket "..Grendel was obliged to make for the marshes, head for his joyless lair. He was well aware that his life's days were done, come to an end " (729-731). Beowulf had freed the Danes of torment and they were grateful to him. The first battle Be! Grendel's mother gives Beowulf an even harder time than Grendel does; nevertheless, he defeats her in underwater combat. Grendel's mother lives in the bottom of lake. It takes Beowulf a whole day
