Niels Bohr is primarily known for his pioneering work in the field of atomic theory. Born on October 7th, 1885, in Copenhagen. His father Christian Bohr, a famous physiologist and mother, Ellen, recognized his great abilities and special gifts early in life that they provided Niels with the best education possible. After graduating High school first in his class, Bohr studied at the University of Copenhagen in1903. Bohr won a gold medal from the Royal Danish Academy of Sciences for his theoretical analysis of vibrations of water jets as a means of determining surface tension. Bohr received his Master's degree from the University of Copenhagen in 1909 and his doctorate in 1911 with a thesis Studies on the electron theory of metals. Also at the university he met his future wife, Margrethe N
between the energies of the orbits.
The energy of an electron depends on the size of the orbit and is lower for smaller orbits. Radiation can occur only when the electron jumps from one orbit to another. The atom will be completely stable in the state with the smallest orbit, since there is no orbit of lower energy into which the electron can jump.
ive to Bohr's new ideas and the two of them formed a very close personal and working relationship which resulted in Bohr producing his theory of the hydrogen atom in 1913 at the age of 27.
