Allegory

Sin comes in many shapes, forms, and sizes. In The Oath sin is portrayed in many ways one of them being the dragon another being the black ooze on their chest and the way they deny that they have been sinning until it comes up to the end.

One of the main portrayals of sin in The Oath is the way people tried to ignore their sin and act as if it never happened once they see the red spot and the burning on their chest. For example in the book when Steve went to the bar to meet with Harold Bly and they were talking and he told everyone to open the shirts and show there mark. Many of the men hesitated and did not want to show it. That is the same way in life, take an alcoholic for example people will deny that they are an alcoholic until it comes to the day were they almost die. And one of the first steps of getting better from alcoholism is that you admit when you are an alcoholic.

way sin is portrayed in the book is Old Town. Old Town is were the dragon started and all it took start it was the one evil action that Benjamin Hyde had done. And from then on the dragon just kept on growing and growing and taking control over all of Hyde valley person by person. This is just like the garden of Eden and that one little sin of eating the fruit off the wrong tree. The same way the dragon got bigger and stronger in Hyde valley the sin in the world have kept growing and growing. But one thing is the same in the book and in this sinful world is that we can count on the grace of God to set us free from the sin all we have to do is ask.

e he gave everyone in the valley a chance to hear about Him through Levi, He will give everyone on the face of this earth the chance to hear about Him and they will have to make up their own minds to believe in the dragon or not and if they are going to kill the dragon with His help like
