to much rashness
What is the deal with primate research? In Deborah Blume's essay, "The Monkey Wars", she gives you the information on the monkey wars. Blume gives you the facts in the war. Her essay has a tone of neutral territory in the midst of the battleground. It is the type of neutrality that asks for peace. But, animal right activists are out of control. They are so radical in their beliefs that they will not negotiate. Their strong beliefs are making them ruthless in this battle. Their ruthlessness has cornered the scientist into a position they would rather not be in. Yet, we still do not have a winner in this war but rather a battle after another battle. So, the question that comes up into the picture, is what really is to become of this war? "When I first started, 20 years ago, monkeys were $25 each," says the chief of lab animal care at the University of California. Yeah this price is awfully appealing. The purchases of the primates were not based the begging price but rather for some other reason. The reason is that the primates resemble humans so very closely that it is not necessary that we must use humans instead. Out of these studies have come prodigious results, with better medicine and cures to ep
The provision-perhaps the most controversial in the entire act-was called "psychological well-being of primates." When the USDA began drafting rules, in the response to the new law, it received a record 35,000 letters of comment. And 14,000 consisted of a written shouting match over how to make primates happy. It took six years before the agency could come up with rules that the research community could accept. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ It seems apparent that the animal right activists will not negotiate the problem among primate research, but rather fight to end all animal testing. What makes us realize the rashness in the animal activist terms of war is, their own statements and actions they have been taking against the researchers. One example of this rashness appears is one animal right activist's statement in which he states what he thinks the reasoning is behind the researcher's studies. In this statement he says it "is just an example of someone doing something terrible to animals because they can get paid for it." Other rashness appears in how the activists attend public speakings were the scientist informs the public on what exactly they are doing and then use that information against them. This brings about problems because the "researchers are tired of telling the public about their work, documenting it in p
