A detailed Summary of Great expectations, revised chapter
I personally preferred the revised chapter rather than the original one. This is because the
original was not descriptive enough and covered a lot of ground in a very short space of time.
In the published ending, Pip returns after eleven years to visit Biddy and Joe. Their son, little
Pip, represents hope for the future and perhaps symbolizes Pip's change of heart.
When Pip visits the ruins of Satis house, you cannot help thinking of his false expectations and
his ruined life. The atmosphere is quiet and melancholy, and there is nothing romantic about his
reunion with Estella. Instead Dickens describes there meeting with sadness and restraint.
